Program Manager, Physical Activity

The British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) is a not for profit organization dedicated to building and sustaining active healthy lifestyles and communities in BC. We are seeking a Program Manager for our Physical Activity initiatives. This senior leadership position is responsible for managing program development and business strategy, and directing BCRPA’s Fitness Registration Program. The Program Manager, Physical Activity, reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and is on BCRPA’s Management Team.

The successful candidate has supervisory experience, event management, and business planning acumen. He/she will be responsible for the strategic planning and direction of the Fitness Registration Program and other initiatives. He/she will oversee departmental staff and budget, analyze program needs, and develop a change model based on financial goals.

This position is required to be strategic, logical, and analytical in developing plans and policies to support the overall direction of the BCRPA. This Manager will evaluate the performance of programs, implement and recommend improved processes, policies, and direction. He/she will assess industry trends and develop a marketing plan with the BCRPA Communications Manager to keep the Fitness Registration Program as the leader in the field.

The Program Manager, Physical Activity, has exceptional skills in communication and effective team leadership. This role collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to manage professional development (including an annual conference), to represent BC in the National Fitness Leadership Alliance, and to ensure BCRPA is current in the sector. He/she will develop an operational and financial framework that takes into consideration several layers of complex needs. Finally, this position is required to contribute to other activities that support the CEO and the rest of the management team to ensure that the BCRPA excels as an organization.

Training and Experience: University degree in relevant field, business focus preferred; knowledge and experience in the physical activity sector; experience in project management.

Terms of Employment: Employment to begin immediately; the position is part-time at .6 – .8 FTE (21-28 hrs/wk); 4 weeks’ vacation; salary range of $33,000 – $44,000 (~$30/hr); benefits available.

In 2015, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) BC launched the Confident Parents: Thriving Kids program. This early intervention program provides preventive and clinical interventions for families of youngsters with behavioural problems in the externalizing spectrum such as aggression, antisocial behaviour, conduct problems, conduct disorder, oppositional defiance, delinquency, and substance use. This empirically supported program is proven to promote healthy child development and reduce moderate behavioural problems. Through structured sessions with trained practitioners, parents and primary caregivers are empowered to become the primary change agents for the child.
