posAbilities Association of BC

posAbilities provides a broad range of services to persons with developmental disabilities and their families. Their team of approximately 600 employees includes community and residential support workers, community connectors, employment specialists, behaviour consultants, other professionals and a network of shared living contractors. They currently serve more than 1,200 children and adults in Metro Vancouver and other parts of BC.

There are four primary service areas:

  • Community inclusion – day support
  • Employment – competitive, community-based work and work experience in our social enterprise
  • Home living – support to live independently, to share your life with a caregiver, or to join roommates in a staffed home
  • Behaviour consultation, training and support

Mission

Assist persons with developmental disabilities to lead meaningful and healthy lives by partnering with the community to provide a comprehensive range of person-centered services for individuals and the families who care for them.

They are committed to building an inclusive community characterized by diversity, hospitality, belonging and respect; where all persons are welcomed and valued for who they are and for the contributions they make.

Goal

To increasingly move away from a services approach to facilitating the good life for persons with disabilities, and to find and promote reciprocal relationships within communities.

They are increasingly exploring community development, employment, social enterprise, and other vehicles that more holistically and comprehensively deliver upon the promise of “good lives in welcoming communities.”

posAbilities has the capacity and flexibility to support an individual throughout his or her life, assisting with navigating life’s transitions to and through adulthood. They work in collaboration with other service providers and community partners to find innovative ways to strengthen our services, and to be responsive to the diverse and changing needs of their persons served and their families over time.
