An experienced leader and management professional to oversee the school district’s comprehensive occupational health and safety program.
In keeping with North Vancouver School District’s commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for staff, students and visitors, the district is seeking a passionate and skilled Occupational Health and Safety (OH & S)manager to oversee the vision, planning, and maintenance of OH & S programs in our diverse school district.
The job duties of the position are broad and include responsibilities for both prevention and compliance within theOH & S portfolio. You will ensure that senior staff are well informed about the related statutory obligations of this portfolio and that proactive measures to maintain district legislative compliance are securely in place.
In addition to the more strategic responsibilities, you will deliver safety training to staff, maintain the hazardous materials inventory, conduct OH & S risk inspections at worksites, and will ensure onboarding of new staff is done well. With the support of an external organization, your list of duties will also include WorkSafeBC claims management. Finally, you will be a critical resource to the schools and each sites’ Occupational Health and Safety committee; supporting risk analysis and Emergency Preparedness efforts.
Experience within a unionized environment will be critical to your success in this role as you will work closely with Human Resource staff with any emerging OH & S issues within the labour context. This could include participation in the grievance process and Collective Bargaining. Your professional experience will also include working with WHMIS, waste management, occupational hygiene, and emergency preparedness. Your professional experience is complimented by a related post-secondary diploma/degree and your Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRS) qualification.

Overview
Reporting to the President and the Board of Directors, the Executive Director of the Public Health Association of BC (PHABC) is responsible for managing all operational aspects of the organization including a large membership and volunteer base. This position designs and implements strategic, business, and evaluation plans for the organization’s projects and services. In this role, you will manage all financial aspects of the organization including financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting. This is a professional role responsible for managing human resource needs (including project managers, coordinators, communications, bookkeeping, office support, and an IT professional), managing procurement, contracts, and risk in a complex multi stakeholder environment. You will be responsible for strategic initiatives and partnerships with external stakeholders including provincial and federal government departments, regional health authorities, the private sector, universities and colleges.

As the Director, Clinical Practice Advisor, it will be your responsibility to provide policy and clinical practice expertise and to manage stakeholder relations for legislative and regulatory changes, current and new multi-faceted projects and initiatives. This position provides expert advice and leads the development, implementation and evaluation of major projects or a business component of large multi-faceted projects with multiple key deliverables. Projects are taken from original concept through to final completion and have components that impact labour, legislation and corporate functions across government (e.g. governance, operations, finance, service delivery, human resources). You will also promote the Ministry’s position and influence acceptance of politically sensitive initiatives and manage conflicts between one or more parties that may have varying interests. You will collaborate with various program areas to provide clinical practice advice on new or existing policy and develop options to ensure the policy is sound and incorporates the best long-term solutions.
