The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) is seeking a part-time (0.6) Licensed Practical Nurse to provide a full continuum of Home Care Nursing services to individuals in a variety of community-based settings in NTC’s Central Region territory. Our Nursing services follow the Nuu-chah-nulth Nursing framework that ensures culturally safe, relational, reflective and trauma informed Nursing Practice. This position is based out of Tofino.
Responsibilities include:
Provide comprehensive health care with an emphasis on healthy living, illness prevention, health education, chronic disease management, and clinical intervention
Establish and maintain community partnerships to help address health issues, reduce the incidence of disease, and to enhance the health of individuals, families groups and general populations
Preferred Qualifications:
Current LPN license with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia (CLPNBC)
Experience working with First Nations will be considered an asset
Familiarity with Panorama, Mustimuhw cEMR, or other related electronic medical record charting system will be considered an asset
Must have a valid BC Driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and be prepared to travel within the region

The Real Property Division (RPD) provides a range of workplace and real estate services to government ministries and the broader public sector. The real estate portfolio of leased and government-owned properties under RPD management is diverse and extends throughout the province. The Corporate Sustainability Team within RPD provides strategic advice and oversight of a management framework that addresses key responsibilities pertaining to the environmental stewardship and health & safety aspects of real property services.
The Senior Manager, Health and Safety Management System facilitates and manages the establishment and ongoing administration of an effective management system to uphold RPD workplace health and safety accountabilities through compliance with recognized good industry practices (e.g. ISO 18001/45001).
The position provides subject matter expertise and supports RPD in upholding health and safety management practices and responsibilities so as to ensure the organization meets all applicable legal and regulatory obligations. Key Tasks
As a Volunteer Advisor, you will be called upon to:
Review applications for funding and make funding recommendations to staff, committee members and Board
Provide professional perspectives regarding trends and issues influencing the Foundation’s work, and provide input into priorities of grantmaking
Demonstrate active participation which includes preparation, attendance, punctuality, ensuring confidentiality, respectful conduct, and responsive, timely communication with staff, committee members and Board
Time Commitment
Advisors serve for a two-year term, which can be renewed once for a total of four years, and must participate in application review a minimum of twice per annual funding cycle. Meetings are held by teleconference for first stage application review and in person for second stage review. The in-person meeting is typically held in Vancouver, British Columbia. In addition to application review, an annual halfday planning meeting and day-long volunteer gathering may also be part of the commitment.

Final decisions for funding requests are made by the CEO and/or the Board of Directors. Funding recommendations cannot exceed the amount of budgeted income available at the time of consideration.

Undergraduate degree in Exercise Science (e.g. Bachelor of Kinesiology).
Certified Exercise Physiologist, certified in good standing with the Health and Fitness Federation of Canada and with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology. Advanced certification or completion of additional training or internship in exercise science is an asset.
Minimum of two (2) years of recent relevant experience as a certified exercise physiologist in providing physical activity information, guidance (e.g., exercise prescription, precautions, resources, tools) and health screening for a wide range of callers, including children, athletes, families, older adults, and individuals living with chronic medical conditions, in a tele-health environment.
Work experience in physical activity related education and behavioural counselling acquired in a variety of settings. Experience in lifestyle counselling by telephone is preferred.
Significant experience in applied research and critical appraisal of the literature and in writing practice guidelines and public and professional resources.
Computer experience with relevant software. I.e. electronic health records, exercise program software, MS Office, etc.

The BC Poverty Reduction Coalition (BCPRC) raises public awareness about poverty in BC and advocates to the government of British Columbia for a strong, comprehensive provincial poverty reduction plan. The BCPRC aims to use regional organizing to strengthen relationships among anti-poverty groups within the region and to support connection to our provincial network in order to achieve a louder, better coordinated voice for people in poverty and their allies in the Northern British Columbia. It has a dual focus:
To inform and change attitudes about people living in poverty.
To campaign for positive change in tackling the root causes of poverty.
The BCPRC supports existing campaigns. In particular, it increases the involvement of those with direct experience of poverty and builds movements in support of change.
The position is part-time (1 day/week) from October 2017 to December 2018. Possibility of contract extension and/or additional hours, fundraising permitting. Vancity Community Foundation operates as Secretariat for the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition so the contract position is coordinated through their office in Vancouver but physically located within Prince George.
The successful candidate will work in partnership with existing organizations to develop and implement strategies for promoting change in the region. They will have skills in building networks and partnerships, campaigning expertise and be committed to the project being directed by the priorities of people in poverty and local organizations working with people in poverty. The post-holder will be required to travel throughout the region and occasionally to Vancouver to meet with colleagues (all travel expenses covered).
Main Responsibilities:
Promote regional campaigning hub
Act as a resource for local campaigns and groups which work to further the interests of people in poverty in keeping with the aims and values of this project
Strengthen existing networks and build practical partnerships
Direct resources and opportunities to those with direct experience of poverty to facilitate their involvement
Campaigning
Collate regional evidence and case studies in support of identified provincial campaigns
Support local organizations/networks to campaign on regional/local issues
Connect with regional academic/community researchers to partner on community-led research in support of identified campaigns
Leadership Development
Facilitate leadership development initiative with people in poverty to ensure their voices are leading campaigns (using model already developed by BCPRC)
Assist with the development and implementation of the community engagement strategy; provide mentorship to community members involved
Assist with the coordination and facilitation of events, meetings and workshops (includes public speaking); maintain long-term engagement of participants
Create spaces for interaction between people in poverty and the wider community
Build relationships with local journalists and connect spokespeople in poverty to local media
Attitude Shifting / Movement Building In consultation and partnership with existing organizations, to:
Develop, refine and implement strategies for promoting change in the region
Influence key MLAs and opinion formers
Engage with allied groups where there is potential for untapped support
Nurture/publicize outbreaks of community solidarity
Engage and mobilize a wider community support base to take action/support identified campaigns
Work with people in poverty, community partners and contractors to develop outreach materials including printed, online and video
Organizational
Provide oversight of the projects’ activities in the region, ensuring that it remains true to its aims and values
Induct and supervise any volunteers
Meet with other staff members as required
Work with other members of the staff team to define initial and ongoing campaign priorities and benchmarks for success
Oversee the project expenditure within the region, maintaining appropriate records and liaising with the Community Organizer regarding expenditure
Collate campaign metrics and support any independent evaluation
Report to the Community Organizer on the work of the project
Bring difficult or contentious issues to the Community Organizer where appropriate
Undertake other tasks as relevant and commensurate with the post.

Experience in community organizing and group facilitation

Knowledge of the political context in BC, primarily at the provincial level but with some understanding of the municipal and federal level
