Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services (YFPS) is mandated to provide inpatient and outpatient Court-ordered and Court-related assessment and treatment services to young persons pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Act as well as other relevant federal and provincial statutes. YFPS also provides services to young persons found unfit to stand trial and those youth found not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder (NCRMD), pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Assessment and treatment services for youth may include specialised programs for: youth who may have committed violent or sexual offences; youth who have offended and are experiencing mental health, behavioural, drug and/or alcohol addictions problems; and youth in custody facilities who are in need of mental health services.

Under direction of the Shift Supervisor or Nurse In-Charge, provides nursing care and prepares detailed written nursing assessments for residents, within a security oriented, adolescent forensic psychiatric unit. Inpatient residents are remanded in custody by the courts for inpatient psychiatric and/or psychological assessment.

 

 

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Registered or eligible for registration with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with 1 year experience working in residential youth care, security, mental health or forensic psychiatric related work OR an equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training may be considered.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with Crisis Intervention and Physical Restraint (CIPR) training OR an equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training may be considered.

Over the two days you will be introduced to complex adaptive systems (CAS) thinking, a branch of complexity science, and will learn how to take concept to practice to create innovative solutions to current issues public health & learn about effective population level interventions. Subtopics that will be covered will include Immunizations/Infectious Disease Response, Health Equity in Practice, Food Systems & Security, and Overdose Response/Safe Supplies.

 

 

Each half-day session will consist of a multi-site wide presentation, introducing the subtopic and how it relates to CAS, followed by a workshop component where participants at each site will take the concept to practice with the chance to work through real issues in public health collaboratively and finish with a feedback session where participants will engage in a knowledge exchange between the various sites. Both days will begin with an overview of CAS and complexity science and end with a recap of what was learned.

 

 

We will be releasing our preliminary agenda and scheduled speakers soon, please check back on the event page for more details as they are released. And don’t forget to tell your friends! Our overarching theme and subtopics will be the focus of our annual fall conference, happening on November 14th and 15th, 2019. If you are interested in presenting at our fall conference, we highly suggest attending the summer school to gain a thorough understanding of our theme.

About the Role

We are seeking a full time Administrative Coordinator to provide administrative support to the CPTK-A Program Manager and program team. The successful candidate will manage the day-to-day business operations of the office, provide support to the Victoria based managers and coordinate logistics for meetings, conferences and other events. The position involves acting as the Victoria office point person on various administrative and human resource (HR) matters. This will involve working closely with Human Resources to ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures as well as with the Payroll Administrator, both located at CMHA BC Division in Vancouver

 

 

Responsibilities

Administration:

  • Provide confidential administrative support to the CPTK-A Program Manager and team
  • Facilitate the ongoing development and review of office systems and administrative efficiency and recommends improvements as applicable
  • Organizes and provides administrative services at various meetings
  • Oversee maintenance and troubleshooting all office equipment
  • Perform general office duties required for smooth day-to-day operations of the office.
  • Informs the CPTK-A Program Manager of issues within the various departments and offices.
  • Co-ordinates logistics for different Committee meetings including travel arrangements, equipment needs and catering.

 

 

Human Resources

  • Liaise with HR at CMHA BC Division to post jobs, coordinate communication with candidates and schedule interviews
  • Liaise with Payroll to process new hire, termination and leave documentation
  • Processing Criminal Reference Checks
  • Process documentation and prepare reports relating to staff activities (staffing, recruitment, training, etc.)
  • Maintain the Staff Directory, updating on a regular basis
  • Provide assistance in updating HR processes and documents
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Completion of a post-secondary degree/diploma in Business Administration and/or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in relevant role
  • Well-developed administrative/management skills to organize, administer, evaluate office support functions
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands,
  • Professional written and communication skills with proven ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and other partners
  • Superior skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and electronic filing systems, with an aptitude and willingness to learn new software and other relevant applications and technical/ office equipment
  • Ability to develop options and/or recommendations to resolve issues
  • Superior organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in the work of non-profit organizations in the health or mental health sectors in particular.

Working conditions

  • This full time (37.5 hours a week) position is located in the heart of downtown Victoria in a heritage building close to bike paths
  • Flexibility to travel occasionally if required
  • There may be occasions where there will be a requirement to be available in non core hours relative to assignments including some evening and/or weekends.

The incumbent must have the ability to work flexible hours, including Saturdays and some evenings. This position requires an acceptable criminal record check.

 

 

Farm Programs Coordinator duties will include:

  • Assist with the Farmers Market set-up
  • Liaise with farmers, artists and artisans
  • Develop a Youth Leadership camp about event management in conjunction with the Fall Fair
  • Develop and lead farm & heritage crafts and activities for all ages
  • Budgeting & purchasing for the programs
  • Supervise & provide support to volunteers & LIT

 

Other duties will include:

  • Develop a farm and heritage skills database
  • General office administration
  • Liaise & collaborate with community organizations
  • Organize special events & regular activities
  • Assist with regular events & activities
  • Promotion, advertising, marketing & public relations

Under the direction of the Vancouver Island West Early Learning Committee and the supervision and evaluation of the District Principal of Student Learning and Staff Development, the Children’s Health Services Navigator assists families to navigate health services for children in School District 84.  

 

The Children’s Health Hub is located in the Village of Gold River on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, 90 km from Campbell River.  Nestled among snow-capped mountain peaks, surrounded by the Pacific Rain Forest and open to the waters of the historic Nootka Sound, Gold River is an ideal location for outdoor enthusiasts.  With its beautiful rivers, breathtaking scenery, clean air, excellent water, and affordable living, Gold River provides the foundation for healthy living.   

 

This appointment is effective immediately and has a flexible work schedule equal to 20 hours per week, when schools are in session.  After completion of a successful probationary period, the incumbent will be eligible for full benefits in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Board of Education of School District 84 (Vancouver Island West) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 2769.

Duties

  • Identifies and maps available children’s health services.
  • Identifies gaps in children’s health services.
  • Navigates current and future health services for children.
  • Builds relationships with community organizations, services providers and families throughout School District 84.
  • Liaises between children’s health services providers and families to facilitate regular communication and services.
  • Coordinates and schedules services.
  • Gathers information, completes reports (including budgets) and makes presentations as required.
  • Travels to provide outreach to families and communities throughout School District 84 (Gold River, Tahsis, Zeballos, Kyuquot).
  • Attends community and regional meetings.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of child development and demonstrates a strong ability to work with children and families with diverse needs and challenges.
  • Establishes and maintains trust and rapport with children and families.
  • Works independently to engage families, communities and service providers.
  • Maintains complete and current records.
  • Operates standard office equipment.
  • Performs all duties with a level of interpersonal skills appropriate to the position.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education or the equivalent including fluent proficiency in written and spoken English;
  • Two-year post-secondary diploma in Human Services, Social Services or equivalent;
  • Over one and up to two years of experience liaising with local and regional community services including health services, children’s services and others;
  • Proven ability to work independently and with others to ensure success;
  • Demonstrated ability to produce reports, budgets and presentations using standard office software application;
  • Possesses local knowledge of family systems and culturally appropriate practices;
  • Physical capability to perform the job duties; and,
  • Valid BC driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract.

 

The temporary rate of pay is $26.00 per hour, to be reviewed by the Joint Job Evaluation Maintenance Committee after six months.  Employment is subject to an approved Criminal Record Check.

As a Disability & Return to Work Coordinator, you will report to Health and Safety Manager and work closely with stakeholders to ensure compliance with Human Rights legislation and optimization of Stay at Work and Return to Work outcomes.   You will also be responsible for Disability Management and Return to Work services for employees experiencing occupational and non-occupational illnesses or injuries, within a unionized environment.

 

 

The ideal candidate will:

  • Collect and interpret medical and functional information in keeping with relevant collective agreement and awards
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance regarding benefits, entitlements, support programs, Disability Management best practices and responsibilities of stakeholders
  • Liaise regularly with stakeholders such as Administrators, Managers, Union Executives and their service providers and other District staff to identify and address barriers to Stay at Work and Return to Work, and to facilitate access to benefits and entitlements
  • Administer Return to Work program initiatives, communicate regularly with stakeholder groups, attend meetings as required, and escalate inquiries to the Manager of Health & Safety.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database and HRIS system ensuring accuracy and reliability of data
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the District’s Case Management, Accommodation and Employee Wellness policies and practices
  • Foster and maintain supportive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide back up support for other employee groups in Health & Safety and Human Resources.

 

 

The successful candidate will possess a relevant post-secondary program such as a diploma or certificate in Rehabilitation and/or Disability Management with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Disability management, preferably in a unionized setting. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Return to Work principles and Privacy legislation. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Duty to accommodate principles and jurisprudence. Excellent computer skills with demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook. Working knowledge of HR systems and databases is an asset. Exemplary and proven interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Proven critical thinking and creative problem solving abilities. Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills. Flexible, with a strong orientation for customer service and teamwork, and a self-starter with excellent organizational and planning skills.
