Health Canada is seeking a science and regional communications officer in Vancouver. Reporting to the regional communications director for BC, the role focusses on supporting Canada’s open science agenda across the country, along with regional duties for BC. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in both regional and national communications files and functions.

Duties of the position include:
Coordinating, researching and writing blog posts featuring scientists and scientific explorations, discoveries and innovations at Health Canada (HC) and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC);
Creating social media promotional plans and campaigns;
Creating internal communications plans and content;
Supporting planning and execution of news conferences and other events involving the Minister of Health, including live streaming on social media;
Pitching news and feature stories to local, regional and national media;
Preparing responses to media enquiries and/or coordinating interviews;
Helping subject matter experts prepare for media interviews;
Planning and executing events across Canada to showcase HC and PHAC science to a variety of audiences including media and the public;
Developing partnerships and opportunities to amplify HC and PHAC communications, marketing and digital campaigns and content;
Helping to coordinate monthly HC-PHAC science communications network meetings;
Participating in national working groups and committees on various files; and,
Preparing briefing materials, presentations, event proposals, as well as various planning and tracking documents.

The BCCDC Foundation for Population and Public Health (BCCDC Foundation) works in partnership with the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). The BCCDC is BC’s government public health agency and provides health promotion and prevention services, analytical and policy support to government and health authorities, and diagnostic and treatment services to reduce communicable and chronic disease, preventable injury and environmental health risks.

Position Summary
The BCCDC Foundation is seeking a Development and Communications Coordinator to support and execute communications and fund development strategies. This position will support work to raise the profile of the Foundation, BCCDC and public health broadly, and support the fundraising efforts of the Foundation. This position requires an understanding of health and the healthcare landscape in BC and Canada. This position reports to the Executive Director, with a dotted line to the Development and Communications Manager, who will provide leadership and mentorship, and daily oversight and work direction. This position will work in alignment with the Operations Coordinator.
This is an unparalleled opportunity for someone looking to implement and support a strategic marketing and communications plan as well as a strategic fund development plan, and to work closely with a small but strong team, to continue to grow both the Foundation and BCCDC’s influence, reputation and impact as public health partners. Duties and Responsibilities
Marketing/Communications Duties (75%)
Implement marketing and communications direction, strategies, and objectives
Create marketing and promotional materials, newsletters, campaigns and reports
Research and evaluate marketing and promotional opportunities and grow leads
Support the development of and implement strategies for social media platforms
Manage social media profiles and presence and drive consistent, relevant traffic and leads from our social network
Track, measure, and analyze all initiatives and create and maintain metrics reports
Update website and social media tools and optimize content for search engines
Support development of strategies to grow our email subscriber base
Identify influential media outlets and journalists, and support content e.g. press releases
Contribute to content creation for web and print materials
Coordinate marketing opportunities for specific projects
Assist in planning, coordinating and participating in events
Conduct market research
Other duties as required
Development Duties (25%)
Coordinate fund development business functions including gift processing, gift fulfillment, tax receipting and updating donor records
Develop and update giving and stewardship related content for social media, web, and print
Engage with annual donors and prospects, answer calls and inquiries related to giving
Track and update goals, activity targets, and metrics related to development activities
Remain current and up to date with best practices and trends related to annual and digital giving
Maintain and optimize data collection and use of the database (DonorPerfect), and generate reports or lists as needed
Other duties as required
Requirements
Post-secondary degree in Marketing, Communications, or related discipline, or a relevant combination of education and experience
3+ years’ experience in a marketing role
Past experience in public relations, communications, and building audiences either online or offline
Knowledge of public health and/or health research an asset
Proficiency in marketing software, tools and techniques
Strong proficiency in social media and digital marketing
Excellent writing abilities for different channels (reports, social media, email, etc)
Skilled in creating, editing, and promoting written and visual content
Excellent organizational skills to work independently and coordinate projects
Excellent communicator, presenter and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions
Event coordination experience
Proficient in relevant computer applications, especially Microsoft Office programs
Knowledge of HTML, social media management programs, Mailchimp, WordPress
Experience with DonorPerfect, or other CRMs, an asset
Experience with graphics program, such as Canva, and asset
Experience with Google Analytics and web analysis tools as asset

Reimagine Health Program at RADIUS-Recruitment Now Open!

If you do, we’re recruiting for the first RADIUS Reimagine Health Program cohort and we’d love for you to pass the opportunity along to them!
This new ideation program is part of the RADIUS Health Promotion Lab. It is a six-month cohort-based program that supports community members and leaders to explore health equity issues in their communities and build ideas to prevent chronic diseases. Through Reimagine Health, participants are supported to produce new and better initiatives that address the systems that actively influence health disparities.
