Title: Development and Communications Coordinator
Salary: $45,000-$50,000, commensurate with experience
Duration: 12 months with possibility of extension
The BCCDC Foundation for Population and Public Health (BCCDC Foundation) works in partnership with the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). The BCCDC is BC’s government public health agency and provides health promotion and prevention services, analytical and policy support to government and health authorities, and diagnostic and treatment services to reduce communicable and chronic disease, preventable injury and environmental health risks.
The BCCDC Foundation is a proactive strategic organization that works in partnership with the BCCDC to improve public health outcomes. The Foundation operates as a tax-exempt charity with its own Board and administration; as such, it is an arm’s length organization in place to support the BCCDC and public health broadly.
The BCCDC Foundation is the philanthropic partner that enables BCCDC to drive innovation that advances population and public health services for British Columbians and others. Established to protect and promote health, prevent harm, and prepare for threats by inspiring vision and philanthropy, the BCCDC Foundation envisions people living in health communities protected from infectious disease and environmental health hazards through innovative research and collaborative public health solutions.
Position Summary
The BCCDC Foundation is seeking a Development and Communications Coordinator to support and execute communications and fund development strategies. This position will support work to raise the profile of the Foundation, BCCDC and public health broadly, and support the fundraising efforts of the Foundation. This position requires an understanding of health and the healthcare landscape in BC and Canada. This position reports to the Executive Director, with a dotted line to the Development and Communications Manager, who will provide leadership and mentorship, and daily oversight and work direction. This position will work in alignment with the Operations Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities
Marketing/Communications Duties (75%)
- Implement marketing and communications direction, strategies, and objectives
- Create marketing and promotional materials, newsletters, campaigns and reports
- Research and evaluate marketing and promotional opportunities and grow leads
- Support the development of and implement strategies for social media platforms
- Manage social media profiles and presence and drive consistent, relevant traffic and leads from our social network
- Track, measure, and analyze all initiatives and create and maintain metrics reports
- Update website and social media tools and optimize content for search engines
- Support development of strategies to grow our email subscriber base
- Identify influential media outlets and journalists, and support content e.g. press releases
- Contribute to content creation for web and print materials
- Coordinate marketing opportunities for specific projects
- Assist in planning, coordinating and participating in events
- Conduct market research
- Other duties as required
Development Duties (25%)
- Coordinate fund development business functions including gift processing, gift fulfillment, tax receipting and updating donor records
- Develop and update giving and stewardship related content for social media, web, and print
- Engage with annual donors and prospects, answer calls and inquiries related to giving
- Track and update goals, activity targets, and metrics related to development activities
- Remain current and up to date with best practices and trends related to annual and digital giving
- Maintain and optimize data collection and use of the database (DonorPerfect), and generate reports or lists as needed
- Other duties as required
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree in Marketing, Communications, or related discipline, or a relevant combination of education and experience
- 3+ years’ experience in a marketing role
- Past experience in public relations, communications, and building audiences either online or offline
- Knowledge of public health and/or health research an asset
- Proficiency in marketing software, tools and techniques
- Strong proficiency in social media and digital marketing
- Excellent writing abilities for different channels (reports, social media, email, etc)
- Skilled in creating, editing, and promoting written and visual content
- Excellent organizational skills to work independently and coordinate projects
- Excellent communicator, presenter and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions
- Event coordination experience
- Proficient in relevant computer applications, especially Microsoft Office programs
- Knowledge of HTML, social media management programs, Mailchimp, WordPress
- Experience with DonorPerfect, or other CRMs, an asset
- Experience with graphics program, such as Canva, and asset
- Experience with Google Analytics and web analysis tools as asset
