Assistant Manager of Operations & Safety
School District No. 27 (Cariboo-Chilcotin) is seeking applications for the excluded permanent position of Assistant Manager of Operations & Safety. Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the successful applicant is responsible for the daily supervision of the Custodial Department and the District’s Health and Safety Program, ensuring a healthy and safe working environment for all District employees, and in compliance with health and safety legislation, guidelines and standards.
Located in the Central Interior of British Columbia Canada, SD No. 27 supports two central communities / commercial areas (100 Mile House and Williams Lake) and many outlying communities throughout the region. The school district serves approximately 4,600 students in 21 schools and operates under an annual budget of approximately $54 million dollars.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize, plan, schedule, and supervise the Custodial Department, providing daily direction and ensuring best practices are followed
- Recruitment, training and evaluation of custodial department
- Manage, analyze, implement and maintain all aspects of the district custodial and cleaning services to ensure compliance with legislation, collective agreements and internal policies and procedures.
- Responsible for joint-management of community-based use of district facilities and grounds
- Provide training on and ensure adherence to Safe Work Procedures and relevant district policies and regulations
Knowledge and Abilities:
- A minimum of three years management experience, preference given to applicants with experience in a unionized environment
- Considerable experience in custodial with a working knowledge of current professional cleaning and floor maintenance procedures
- Experience with WorkSafe BC, WHMIS and other safety protocols
- Proven ability to identify and set priorities, organize, plan and schedule to ensure accurate completion of work within established deadlines
- Proven ability to supervise, discipline and evaluate the work of unionized staff
- Proven ability to work in a team setting, recognizing individual strengths and skills and utilizing such skills to benefit the department and District
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships and demonstrate skill and aptitude in dispute resolution
- Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
- Ability to seek and innovative solutions for problems and exercise judgement and action in performance of all duties
- Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word and Excel
- Valid BC Driver’s License
