These fully online, non-credit courses—offered in partnership with the University of Victoria, Division of Continuing Studies and the Department of Geography—will give you the skills and knowledge you need to get ahead in your career.

Working with Administrative Data
Date: Monday, Sept. 14 – Sunday, Dec. 6

This course examines the basics of what administrative data are, where they come from, how they can be used for research, what the data produced for a research project looks like, the skills that are needed to work with them, and basic statistical analysis of these data. It also provides an overview of privacy issues and access to data.

Longitudinal Analysis and Multi-level Modeling of Population Health Data
Date: Monday, Sept. 14 – Sunday, Dec. 6

This course provides students with an introduction to and hands-on experience specifying multi-level modeling and longitudinal analysis. Students will gain an understanding of different types of approaches including time varying and invariant predictors and multivariate and multi-population models with different outcomes. The course also deals with missing data and errors in measurement and measurement misclassification.

Please note: knowledge of regression analysis is a requirement for this course.

 

Certificate Program in Population Health Data Analysis
This four-course program fills a gap in the present training needs for those working in the field of epidemiology and statistical analysis, as well as researchers, policy makers, graduate students and faculty members working with data analysis pertaining to population health. The overall goal of the program is to provide you with strong foundational knowledge and data analysis skills to support your work within the health and social services sector.

On The Map: Arts & Health in BC

Do you work in the arts sector, the health sector or somewhere in between?  Check out Arts Health BC’s On The Map: Arts & Health in BC project for a glimpse into how arts & health intersecting in BC!

Following a province-wide survey of arts & health activity in BC last fall, Arts Health BC has just released a final report presenting a summary of the OTM survey findings, as well as a directory of the submitted initiatives.  An online map has also been created that plots the initiatives on a Google map of BC and provides links to various websites with additional information.   (Although the survey is now complete, it is not too late for BC-based arts & health initiatives to be added to the Google Map.  Profile summaries can be submitted online at: www.artshealthbc.ca/on-the-map.)

YWCA Metro Vancouver nominee – Paola Ardiles (PHABC Board member)

Please join us in congratulating Paola Ardiles (PHBABC Board member) for her nomination to the YWCAMetro Vancouver Women of Distinction Awards.

She was nominated by friends and colleagues from Bridge for Health, SFU and the President of the Public Health Association of BC for her leadership making a difference in our community.

As part of this nominations she is participating in an online category: Connecting the Community Award. With your help she will have an opportunity to allocate $10,000 to preventing violence against women – all you need to do is  online for her! You can vote once every 24 hours from each computer until Friday, May 15th at noon. The nominee with the most votes will receive the Connecting the Community Award and Scotiabank will donate $10,000 to the program area of her choice.
