March 10: Our Shot: Vaccinating B.C. Town Hall

B.C.’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout has begun and many British Columbians are looking forward to getting their lives back and saying farewell to the virus. But many questions about the vaccine remain, such as:

  • How do we know that it’s safe and effective?
  • Who will notify me when it’s my turn to get the vaccine?
  • Can I get the vaccine at my doctor’s office?
  • How will remote communities get the vaccine?
  • Will there be a waitlist when it’s my time to get vaccinated?
  • After getting the vaccine, will life go back to the way it was before?

Explore these questions and more on March 10 at Our Shot: Vaccinating B.C.: a free, online public town hall about the COVID-19 vaccine and what you need to know before receiving immunization.

Town Hall details:

  • Town Hall: 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

A broad group of Canadians is calling on the public to sign a petition to free Canada from violence. They include victim advocates, public health, faith-based communities, social justice, municipalities, and academics.

Rev. Frances Deverell led the creation of the petition saying “now is the time for Canada to invest in proven prevention strategies”. Shannon Turner, National Co-Chair of Prevention of Violence Canada which joined as a partner, affirmed that “it is past time that Canada adopt World Health Organization recommendations and invest upstream in prevention to stop violence and trauma before it happens rather than responding after the harm is done”.

For more information read this BACKGROUNDER  prepared by Audrey Monette (research consultant and staff at the Canadian Municipal Network on Crime Prevention) and Dr. Irvin Waller (Emeritus Professor, University of Ottawa) to provide background information on the Petition to the Government of Canada for Action to Significantly Reduce Violence.
