The Sector Development Branch’s Youth Development Team exists to set the foundation for development and growth of healthy sustainable rural and agricultural communities. It achieves this purpose through focusing on the development and support of programs that promote our future competitive advantage through building of capacity and commitment achieved by programs such as 4-H BC that assist and guide youths and volunteers towards active participation in the agricultural sector whether in future careers or involvement as informed citizens of the community. The team is part of the Partnerships & Outreach Unit which delivers programs and services to grow the next generation of agriculture leaders, support indigenous peoples, under-represented populations and agri-food business development.

 

The Youth Development Specialist plays the key role in planning and implementation of programs focused on the development and growth of the rural and agricultural community by providing leadership in operations. The team of four staff serve the entire geographic area of the province from various regional centres in providing education and training in informal youth and adult education. The Specialist also represents the Ministry in its relationship with the 4-H BC through Team Lead and/or on 4-H BC Provincial Council and committees and assumes the consultative role with industry and with other Ministries, departments and agencies on all youth development matters in areas such as; planning, program delivery, evaluation and policy.

Job Qualifications:

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • University degree in Agriculture, Education, Adult Education, Arts, Science, Communications, Organizational Management, Leadership Training, Home Economics, etc. is preferred, OR
  • A diploma and a minimum 2 years of equivalent experience may be considered.
  • A minimum two (2) years’ related work experience. Preference may be given to those who obtained the relative work experience in the agricultural sector and/or in education curriculum development and teaching.

*Related Work Experience (such as or may include):

  • Working with youth development, volunteer organizations and community development.
  • Teaching and/or creating educational material.
  • Planning and/or coordinating education events.

Provisos

  • Travel in BC is required
  • flexible scheduling.
  • A valid BC driver’s licence (or equivalent) is required
