Reporting to the Deputy Minister, Health and Social Services and as a key member of the department’s executive team, the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) is responsible for leading Health Services delivery and innovation across this truly unique Canadian territory. The ADM is accountable for ensuring programs and mechanisms meet the needs of and contribute towards the wellness of all Yukon residents, and are resource effective and culturally appropriate. The focus of the work is ensuring Yukon’s health services improve the patient care experience, attain better health outcomes and provide value for money in health spending. The success of this position will depend on the incumbent’s ability to establish effective relationships and work collaboratively with other members of the department’s senior executive team, governments (federal, provincial/territorial, municipal, and First Nations), patients, clients and their families, communities and NGO’s to achieve and execute on a shared vision.

 

The ideal candidate brings a proven track record in integrating and operationalizing significant change, and the ability to make difficult decisions by employing an evidence-based approach. An experienced executive with strong strategic planning, policy development and program management/implementation skills, the ADM will be capable of balancing multiple priorities in a complex, multi-disciplinary, high profile public service work environment.

 

Modern in approach, the ADM will also drive a renewed sense of engagement within the department and staff, while utilizing technical expertise and political savvy to navigate issues and move agendas forward with diligence and sensitivity.

 

The selected candidate will bring extensive, progressive senior leadership experience in health services or related administration and hold a Master’s degree in a health-related discipline (or equivalent experience). Clinical experience is an asset.
