For all those who have registered, check your inboxes! We’ve just distributed the electronic versions of our conference program; it is packed with information about our world renowned plenary speakers, detailed schedules of both days, information on this year’s exhibitors, location information and more! These programs will be available at the registration desk both days, please do not feel you have to print it out beforehand.

 


 

We are excited to announce the final wave of plenary session speakers, these experts in their respective fields will speak about their current work creating safe and inclusive communities during our plenary sessions on violence prevention, injury prevention, health equity in practice and fostering community inclusion and cultural safety. These speakers include:

  • Rachel Davis – Executive Director at the Prevention Institute in the US.
  • Bernie Pauly – Associate Professor at the University of Victoria School of Nursing and Scientist at the Centre for Addictions Research of British Columbia.

On Thursday November 15th, 2018 from 3:45pm to 5:00pm we will be hosting our networking event concurrently with our exhibitor’s booths and poster sessions. This is a relaxed event where one can enjoy some complimentary appetizers and a glass of wine or beer from our cash bar while networking with likeminded individuals, learning about new research and projects across BC from one of our 18 poster presentations and perusing the exhibitor’s booths to learn more about our partner organizations and maybe score some free swag!  To learn more about this year’s exhibitors, check out below.

We have released the detailed schedule for this year’s oral presentations, poster presentations and workshops. This year’s call for abstracts exceeded our expectations for the number and quality of submissions and we thank everyone who submitted theirs. We are humbled by the response and pleased to be able to provide a safe place for so many public health professionals to share their work and research with like minded individuals. Farm to School Month Canada — Celebration at Colquitz Middle School

Thanks to staff and students at Colquitz Middle School for preparing a lovely salad and pumpkin soup (from their own garden!) to celebrate Farm to School Month Canada on Friday, Oct. 26, 2018. The food was delicious and students and staff were very welcoming. Hon. Rob Fleming, Minister of Education and the Hon. Lana Popham, Minster of Agriculture were in attendance as well as representatives from PHABC, Farm to School BC, Farm to Cafeteria Canada, SD 61 school trustees, Lifecycles Project Society, Island Health, and Whole Foods. The review process is over and results of the review has been emailed to each author, if you submitted an abstract please check your inbox for your results and presentation time. Please note presentation times may change as the schedule is finalized.

This year’s plenary sessions will feature a number of world renowned experts in their respective fields; including Bridget Penhale, an expert in mental health and senior violence prevention from the University of East Anglia in the UK, Finn Kjærulf, program manager at the Danish Institution Against Torture, Dr. Irvin Waller, violence prevention expert from the University of Ottawa, Rachel Davis, executive director at the Prevention Institute in the US, Dr. Bernie Pauly, a professor and health equity specialist at the University of Victoria, Dr. Arturo Cervantes, an injury prevention and road safety expert from the University of Anahuac in Mexico, Dr. Mariana Brussoni, expert on risky play at BC Children’s Hospital, and Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer for BC.  Stay tuned for our final round of speakers to be announced!
