Today is #InternationalYouthDay and this year’s theme is Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health.

Growing up, #GGSimon and her family lived off the land and hunted, fished and gathered food. Her message highlights the important role youth have in confronting climate change, which impacts everything from the air we breathe to the food we eat. Youth who are taking action for a better tomorrow and whose vision and perseverance are contributing to a healthy future can inspire all Canadians to join them in their efforts.

Mandatory Vaccinations to be Required for Long-term Care Homes and Seniors’ Assisted Living Workers

It will now be mandatory for all workers in licensed long-term care and assisted living to be vaccinated against COVID-19. This will help give an extra layer of protection for long-term care residents, who are most at risk from COVID-19.

Dr. Bonnie Henry, Adrian Dix to Host COVID-19 Townhall for Interior Health

Interior Health is inviting the public to join a live town hall to discuss B.C.’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts with the province’s top health officials. Health Minister Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry will be on the call, alongside representatives from Interior Health, answering questions about COVID-19.

The telephone town hall is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. You can join by calling 1-877-229-8493 and entering identification code 117216.

The meeting will also be live-streamed online with closed captioning.

New Regional Health Orders for the Central Okanagan

Due to a spike in cases, Interior Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak in the central Okanagan. Vaccines are easily available at drop-in clinics and events listed at gov.bc.ca/VaxForBC

Until the region sees a drop in cases and higher vaccination rates, the following guidelines will apply:

Masks are mandatory for all indoor public spaces.
Non-essential travel to the area should be avoided unless fully vaccinated (two weeks after your second dose).
People should be especially cautious with indoor and outdoor personal gatherings.
Testing will be available for anyone experiencing symptoms, and asymptomatic testing in areas with COVID-19 exposures will take place.
