Dr. Bruce Perry –  “Child Trauma and Neglect – Impact, Assessment & Intervention”

Dr. Perry will provide a general overview of brain development, the impact of abuse and neglect, and intervention implications. This day is for a broad audience including child development and early intervention professionals, First Nations Health Authority staff, Aboriginal service providers, mental health clinicians, probation officers, social workers, foster parents, educators, alcohol and drug counsellors, health professionals, and community leaders. Themes covered will include: Principles of Brain Organization and Development; Changing Neural Systems; Relational Health and Development; the Impact of Abuse, Neglect and Chaos; Memory; Implications for Practice, Policy and Program Development.

Dr. Bruce Perry, M.D., Ph. D

Dr.   Perry   is   the   Senior   Fellow   of   The   ChildTrauma  Academy,   a   not for profit   organization   based   in  Houston,   TX and adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago.

Dr.  Perry  is  the  author,  with  Maia  Szalavitz,  of  “The  Boy  Who  Was  Raised  As  A  Dog” a bestselling book based on his work with maltreated children and “Born for Love: Why Empathy is Essential and Endangered”.

Over the last thirty years, Dr.  Perry has been an active teacher, clinician and researcher in children’s mental health and the neurosciences.
