Sally McBride is the Knowledge Translation Manager for the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP; earlylearning.ubc.ca), a research institute dedicated to advancing and applying interdisciplinary research to promote equity in children’s developmental and educational outcomes, and contributing to social change that improves the health and well-being of children and families. In this role, Sally steers and develops strategy in HELP’s Community Engagement, Mapping and Visualization, and Communications initiatives.
Sally joined PHABC in 2012, as an active member of the Policy, Advocacy and Research Committee. In 2013, Sally co-led the association`s ‘Health Voices’ campaign, an initiative to build awareness and support for key public health issues in the 2013 provincial election. The campaign developed a strong online presence and voice for PHABC, including Canada-wide readership for Health Voices blog that was aligned with PHABC`s mandate and goals. This is her first year sitting on the Board of Directors.
Over the past 10 years Sally has worked both in BC and internationally in health promotion, research, and advocacy initiatives focusing on health inequities, and mental and environmental health. She has earned a BA in Anthropology (University of Victoria, 2004) and a Masters in Global Public Health (Simon Fraser University, 2011). Sally currently coordinates the province’s first intersectoral, climate change and health policy group (climatehealthbc.ca). The groups acts as a vehicle for organizing the health sector to document and reduce the impacts of climate change on public health in the province, while supporting efforts to reduce the sector’s carbon footprint. She is also an alumnus of the Next Up Network, a leadership training initiative supported by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.
