SUMMARY:You’ve Got to Move it\, Move it!  - Building Communities that Motivate People to Walk and Bike
DESCRIPTION:BC Healthy Living Alliance invites you to an exciting webinar on healthier built environments. \nCommunities that make it more convenient and comfortable for people to walk and bike to where they need to go – also make it easier for people to be healthier. \nThere are stacks of studies that back this up.  Just last year\, the My Health\, My Community surveys found that Metro Vancouver residents who commuted by transit\, bike or on foot were twice as likely to get the recommended levels of physical activity.  Those that regularly walked or biked were also 48% more likely to be a healthy weight compared to those who commuted by car. \nThe relationship between active modes of travel and health is so strong that the World Health Organization has called investment in active transportation infrastructure a ‘best buy’ for governments. \nSo let’s talk about how to build support for community planning that makes it easier for people to get around by bike and on foot! \nClick here to register: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/3310558417949307906 \nSpeakers:  \nAngus McAllister will delve into recent research done for the Real Estate Foundation of BC on public opinions and attitudes around sustainability and the built environment. He’ll give us a sense of how these issues and what language resonates with British Columbians across the province\, in urban centres\, suburbs and small towns. \nDr. Kay Teschke will explain what her research says about different kinds of bike facilities – including which ones are safer and which ones motivate more people to start bicycling. \nJanet Rerecich will walk us through some of the online resources and tools that were developed through BCRPA’s BEAT project (Built Environment and Active Transportation).  She’ll show us how small communities have used the BEAT tools to build support and plans for active transportation and leveraged funding to get facilities built. \n

SUMMARY:NCCDH Webinar: Can a guaranteed annual income help level the playing field?
DESCRIPTION:  \nGuaranteed annual income (also called basic income guarantee) is experiencing a resurgence as a public policy approach to improving economic and social wellbeing. Analysis of data from the MINCOME study\, in which Manitoba residents (in Dauphin and some parts of Winnipeg) were guaranteed an annual income\, has been very influential for policy makers considering basic income support as a population-level intervention. Public health agencies and associations have expressed their support for guaranteed annual income\, and the Government of Ontario recently announced that it will fund a pilot basic income project in the province. \nThis webinar will focus on the effects of guaranteed income policies on wellbeing. It will also explore the role of public health actors in supporting guaranteed income policies. \n  \nAdvisors on tap: \nEvelyn Forget\, BA\, MA\, PhD\nProfessor\, Department of Community Health Sciences\, University of Manitoba\nAcademic Director of the Manitoba Research Data Centre \n  \nLisa Simon\, MD MPH CCFP FRCPC\nAssociate Medical Officer of Health\, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit\nalPHa/OPHA Health Equity Work Group \n Facilitator: \nSume Ndumbe-Eyoh\, Hons BSc\, MHSc\nKnowledge Translation Specialist\, National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health \nClick here to register. \nhttp://nccdh.ca/workshops-events/entry/webinar-can-a-guaranteed-annual-income-help-level-the-playing-field

SUMMARY:Webinar - PASS: Expanding physical activity reporting to incorporate sedentary behaviour and sleep
DESCRIPTION:To better align with current evidence that all forms of movement have an impact on chronic disease prevention\, the Public Health Agency of Canada (the Agency) has broadened the scope of physical activity surveillance to include sedentary behaviour and sleep behaviours\, as well as their risk and protective factors. This webinar will review the process undertaken by the Agency to develop the Physical Activity\, Sedentary Behaviour and Sleep (PASS) Indicator Framework (IF). A goal of the PASS IF was to identify the robust indicators of PASS behaviours at the individual\, family\, community and society levels situated in the environments in which they occur\, including the home\, work\, school\, community\, and transportation. The presentation will include an overview of the Agency’s role in physical activity surveillance in Canada\, including the transition from leisure time physical activity to 24-hour movement reporting\, as well as describe the PASS IF\, from its inception to its future role in surveillance. \nTo register and for more info at: \nhttps://cdpac.webex.com/mw3000/mywebex/default.do?siteurl=cdpac
