Infants and older adults are at higher risk of developing severe illness and need hospitalization. \n  \nPEOPLE AT HIGH RISK OF RSV\nNearly all children will have an RSV infection before 2 years of age. \nSome people are at greater risk for RSV-related complications\, including: \n\nPremature infants\nInfants 6 months of age and younger\nChildren with chronic lung or heart disease\nChildren with neuromuscular disorders\nPeople of any age with weakened immune systems\nInfants under 6 months of age living in remote communities\nAdults 65 years of age and older\n\n  \nRISK OF HOSPITALIZATION\nRSV infection is the most common cause of pneumonia and bronchiolitis in infants requiring hospitalization. Hospitalization increases with age\, particularly among adults 65 years of age and older. \n\n  \n\nPREVENTING RSV\n\nWash your hands with soap and water frequently\nClean common surfaces\nAvoid close contact with others who may be sick\nStay at home when you are sick\nCover coughs and sneezes\n\nProtection is available for infants at high risk using monoclonal antibodies. \nVaccination is available for the prevention of RSV in older adults\, but programs vary across provinces and territories. \n\n\n\n\nFor more information visit https://www.rsvawareness.ca/
