SUMMARY:Public Health Systems Governance: Better Understanding and Acting on Governance to Strengthen Public Health Systems in Canada
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic has posed many questions and presented numerous challenges for public health systems in Canada and around the world. Acknowledging these\, in her latest report\, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer\, Dr. Theresa Tam\, has called for a strengthening and renewal of public health systems in Canada so that they are better prepared to respond to current and future public health challenges. \nThe preparation of her report was informed in part by four reports commissioned from independent experts. We take advantage of their publication to present and discuss the main results of the one entitled “Governing for the public’s health: Governance options for a strengthened and renewed public health system in Canada”. \nThis webinar will begin with a presentation by Dr. Di Ruggiero\, who will share some of the findings of the report\, focusing on key pathways for strengthening\, improving\, and transforming the governance of public health systems. A panel of two experts will then share their thoughts on governance models and their implications for the future of public health systems. This interactive panel will include Professor David Hunter and Dr Jean-Louis Denis. \nThis webinar should enable participants to: \n• Define public health system governance and recognize its main components.\n• Recognize issues related to the governance of public health systems in Canada.\n• Identify avenues for action to strengthen the governance of public health systems in Canada.

SUMMARY:OD PREP Episode 7: A Conversation with Laura Shaver and Reija Jean from BCAPOM
DESCRIPTION:The OD PREP series is coming to a close with our seventh and final installment: A Conversation with Laura Shaver and Reija Jean from the BC Association of People on Opiate Maintenance (BCAPOM) We are ending on a hopeful note. Laura and Reija are incredible peer activists who have worked tirelessly to expand access to opioid agonist therapy (OAT) across the province. \n  \nSafer supply is a critical issue. The Province has rolled out numerous iterations of prescription programs for people to supplement or replace their use of street drugs and reduce their risk of poisoning and overdose. Such a policy intervention is unprecedented and largely due to the lobbying efforts of grassroots organizations such as BCAPOM and VANDU. \n  \nJoin us next Tuesday\, November 30th at 2:30pm to hear from Reija and Laura about their organization\, partnerships and advocacy for an expanded peer network and access to OAT. The format is casual. They plan to chat with one another and with you to share their knowledge and answer your questions. As always\, the webinar is free to join!  \n  \nClick here to register. We hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:ECHO Network Knowledge Exchange: Health in Watersheds Exploring Connections and Data Complexities
DESCRIPTION:Day 3 of the ECHO Network Knowledge Exchange Sessions on “Honouring Complexity: Making Space to Address Cumulative Impacts\, Climate Change and Co-Benefits” \n  \nThis panel and discussion will profile examples of ‘health in watersheds’ work underway across the ECHO Network\, with an emphasis on environment\, community and health connections\, and the important data and integration challenges that arise when working at the watershed scale. Panelists and discussants will profile experiences across a variety of watershed scales across Canada and Oceania\, ranging from continental to coastal marine systems. An\ninteractive discussion will explore new opportunities to amplify integrative approaches to ‘health in watersheds’ especially when combined with commitments to profile Indigenous knowledges\, champion equity and foreground ecological perspectives. \n  \nAt the end of this session\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify and describe strengths and weaknesses of using the watershed scale for understanding environment\, community and health connections;\nUnderstand more about the ways that human and ecosystem data are collected with different objectives\, at different scales and have different privacy constraints;\nDiscuss how working in watersheds can reveal diverse pathways of connection among environment\, equity and health\, as well as unmask inequities across different contexts;\nDiscuss opportunities for data-informed approaches to health in watersheds\, to inform community-driven\, and integrative approaches to land\, water and health (ranging from Indigenous-led work through to watershed governance and research);\nLearn new terms for understanding watershed and catchments from different territories and languages in Canada and Oceania.\n\n  \nTo register\, visit: https://unbc.zoom.us/meeting/register/u50sf-CtpjopH9ajh60dH8jJG2CfSVmdYhJh

SUMMARY:ECHO Network Knowledge Exchange: Opening Session
DESCRIPTION:Day 1 of the ECHO Network Knowledge Exchange Sessions on “Honouring Complexity: Making Space to Address Cumulative Impacts\, Climate Change and Co-Benefits” \n  \n‘Healing Indicators’: ECHO Network Round Table Panel and Discussion \n  \nThis Healing Indicators session brings together a panel to discuss emerging research in Indigenous health and wellness in unceded northern BC. The session will explore the space between resource development\, Impact Assessment and nation-based sovereignty and self-determination over health\, as inextricably interconnected with the environment\, and ongoing needs for ‘healing indicators’ that reflect these relationships. \n  \nThe panel will lead into discussion and reflections from members of the ECHO network to explore these themes in different contexts\, ranging from Indigenous-led experiences in Aotearoa/New Zealand\, through to health authority experiences in northern BC. The session will also create space for discussion among participants about forward thinking work that realizes and promotes Indigenous leadership in the regulation of Health Impact Assessment and other integrative approaches to environment\, equity and health. \n  \nLearning objectives are two fold: \n\nTo analyze and discuss indicator work being done in support of community and nation driven health and wellness priorities.\nTo explore health and wellness as a space to amplify Indigenous self-determination and nation-based sovereignty over wellness programming and decision making.\n\n  \nTo register\, visit: https://unbc.zoom.us/meeting/register/u5wtcumhpz0sEteFNkJhHz8MghpVPQfqr3QG
